Solutions for Resolutions

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Probably most of us have made some sort of resolutions for the new year.  Most likely they are focused on physical, spiritual, and relational needs or improvement we want to make in our lives. Many of us have considered what we want to accomplish in 2022 … setting goals and putting action plans in motion for things we want to improve or achieve.  But our Verse of the Day affords us another thought that I believe we should consider as we make our plans.  Wisdom!  We need a heart of wisdom to prioritize our goals and plans … to guide us into alignment with what God wants for our lives. King Solomon understood the need for wisdom and discernment.  Here are just a few verses to help us focus on this point:

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. ~ Proverbs 15:22

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. ~ Proverbs 16:3

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. ~ Proverbs 19:21
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. ~ Proverbs 21:5

I believe success (goal achievement) comes when we commit our ourselves to actions that will promote the obedience that comes from faith … actions that will draw us into closer relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  So as you make resolutions, set goals, and devise your strategies, check the objective and purpose of your plans.  Is what you want to accomplish for the glory of God or for your own personal edification?  Indeed, our time on this earth is short … our days are numbered. So I pray we will spend our time wisely and that the desire of our hearts will be to make the most of every opportunity to serve our Lord.”  Yes, “May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” (Psalm 20:4)

Have a Blessed Day!
